The main motivation for the project is to raise students’ awareness of environmental problems as the issue concerns all of us and our students will not become responsible adult decision-makers if environmental education is not effective and interesting to them. We are strongly convinced that students must get familiar with ecology in a holistic way which means that we have to pay attention not only to ecological problems but also to students’ attitudes, values, commitments for actions as well as ethical responsibilities for the rational use of natural resources and for a sustainable development. They must be fully aware that sooner or later they will be responsible for the future of the generations to come and that is why they need to know how to solve problems and make decisions.

Due to our “Let’s get green- raising awareness of ecological problems” project, our students will be faced more closely to the environment which surrounds them and through working on the project will become aware of the environmental hazards caused mainly by human irresponsible actions. As a result, our students will realize how important it is to take care of the environment and behave in a responsible way that will be beneficial to all of us in the long run.

The project will have an impact both inside and outside the involved schools as we will carry out cross-curricular activities in the classroom and advertise ecological issues in the local community. Getting more familiar with the ecological problems, students are likely to share their knowledge and experience with a wider community.

Teachers taking part in the project will learn from each other, contribute from different standpoints to implement the project, and cooperate internationally to have an impact in schools and societies. We need to see how EE is carried out in each of the five countries involved and how schools deal with the issue as far as their curricula are concerned.

The project objectives:

STUDENTS

- Raising students’ awareness of different ecological problems which concern all of us regardless of nation, age, sex, religion, race, etc.; - Improving students’ communication and ICT skills by enabling them to make presentations about the results of their project work as well as other project-related topics - Improving students’ language skills, team work skills as well as decision- making competences; - developing students’ self-esteem, confidence and making them aware that their ideas and experiences stand for a valuable contribution to the project, reducing social exclusion and risk of early school- leaving; - Showing the functions and responsibilities of Governmental Organizations and NGOs - all the partners will cooperate with the environmental groups like Greenpeace, etc. in their local area to establish better results of the project in a wider community; - motivating them to broaden their knowledge on ecology to become responsible citizens who will take care of the environment for future generations; - Improving their English by communicating with their partners and presenting their ideas in a foreign language .

TEACHERS: -Exchanging practices and experiences related to EE between one another; - enabling the development of digital materials suitable for the cross-curricular teaching of EE; - promoting active citizenship and social responsibility; - strengthening the role of the school in our local communities; - applying innovative teaching methods and educational materials to make classes more enjoyable and effective (developing digital learning materials to be available online) in accordance with holistic, cross-curricular approaches; - enhancing the teachers’ professional development; The project will produce both tangible and intangible results, which will measure the level of attainment of the proposed objectives.

Intangible results include: students’ developed environmental awareness and social responsibility (visible via questionnaires and observation), better awareness of similarities and differences between educational systems and approaches to EE (teachers) (visible in the meeting reports), improved language skills, interpersonal and personal skills and critical thinking, improved team-work skills (visible on the basis of direct observation), strengthened cooperation between teachers at EU level (visible via the quality of the results produced), higher students’ motivation and being more openminded and tolerant towards other cultures.

Tangible outcomes: digital collection of materials on the four (4) main EE-related topics, methodology aiming at involving students in environmental campaigns, presentations of schools / systems of education, workshops materials, students’ work, observation Sheets, campaign materials, flyers, questionnaires, brochures, posters, management documents, reports, posts on the project FB, photos, videos.
